Comments The Flying Beaver Brothers and the Fishy Business

  1. A worthy sequel to the Flying Beaver Brothers debut hilarious story with its heart in the right tree hugging place Can the flat tailed brothers thwart the evil capitalist Walter Mackarel IV, maker of Fish Stix wooden stick toys Will the formerly evil penguins and their trusty spatula Cynthia help them Read this and find out

  2. Beaver brothers Ace and Bub must stop an evil company from eating up every tree on Beaver Island Trying to keep up with consumer demand, Fish Stix company is chopping up all the trees on Beaver Island to make an environmentally friendly children s toy Bub and Ace aren t buying it With a little investigating, the Beaver brothers solve this environmental crime and save their home from environmental evils The Flying Beaver Brothers and the Fishy Business is appropriate for ages 6 Grades 1 The Flyin [...]

  3. Ace and Bub, the flying beaver brothers, wake up to find a volcano has sprung up on Beaver Island over night Taking their hang glider to investigate, the two beavers end up crashing and being dragged into a machine chopping trees, a machine with no off switch. This unpleasant near encounter with being shredded is Ace and Bub s first contact with the mackerels that are running operations to create and sell Fish Stix These green rods are made from the core of pine trees in what the fish claim are e [...]

  4. As did some other reviewers, I liked this second book featuring the Beaver brothers even than the first one Ace and Bub uncover a plot by a corporation to denude the island of its trees, creating Fish Stix made from ground up trees and supposedly good for the environment But that s just what the corporation claims in its advertisements, which, by the way, feature the brothers nemesis Bruce It will take an alliance made up Ace, Bub, the evil penguins who aren t all that evil, and yes, even Bruce [...]

  5. This story reminded me of when I saw Ferngully the Last Rain Forrest Just like the fairy in Ferngully tries to save the forrest from a machine that is destroying the trees, Bob and Bub discover the Fish Stix factory where a machine is cutting down the trees Bob and Bub try to enlist their friend Bruce only to find that he has been filming commercials for the company When Bob wants to find out what s going on, Bub decides to stay behind with Bruce When Bob discovers what Fish Stix is really up to [...]

  6. This series gets better with each volume This time around Ace and Bub investigate the Fish Stix business run by Walter Mackeral the Fourth and find out that it s destroying Beaver Island through deforestation and pollution In an ending that would appeal to 80s movie fans, they attempt to blow the company up by clogging their smokestack with pancakes With a little help from some unlikely sources the Beaver Brothers save the island, but Walter Mackeral lives to make trouble This series cracks me [...]

  7. Enjoyed this second installment of Ace and Bub even than the first I m thinking that THE FLYING BEAVER BROTHERS will really appeal to those younger readers who enjoy the running gags and asides of Disney s Phineas and Ferb series. In this installment, Ace and Bub are called to rescue the island from a group of entrepreneurial fish who want to make environmentally friendly building toys But something is up with that new, inexplicable volcano that has just popped up Perhaps some information offere [...]

  8. These books are hilarious Bub and Ace, the two beavers, along with their penguin friends Bob and Bob and his trusty spatula Cynthia are back to save Beaver Island again This time a fish company has set up Fish Stix, creating stick toys out of trees Environmentally friendly, they claim That smoke up there That s not the factory smoke, that s a new volcano Yeah, right.Pancakes, catapults, fish with bowls on their head, friendships lost and regained, all find a place in this madcap but still though [...]

  9. Ace and Bub, the Beaver Brothers, wake up one day and see the volcano on their island Wait a minute, there isn t a volcano on their island When they go to investigate, they find a factory for the Fish Stix corporation The factory is run by a fish named Walter Mackerel, and Walter s plan is to create environmentally friendly toys on the island Except that Walter is cutting down all the trees to power his factory Whoa wait a minute That can t be good How can Bub and Ace put a stop to this madness

  10. Both myself and the 2nd grade boy I nanny loved the first Beaver Brothers book, so I got him the second in this series for Christmas We both agreed that the first book is better This one is just as cute, and I really liked the idea of the environmental plot, but for some reason this one just wasn t as funny Still, the kid really liked it he read it over and over, read parts of aloud to me, giggled a lot while reading it and that s saying a lot for a kid who usually claims he hates reading.

  11. The penguins return and are now living with the beaver brothers They are the best part of this book Otherwise, this is a boring, pseudo eco lecture Factories are bad, they only care about profits, they always lie and we should never make anything out of wood The characters who at first side with the factory change their mind not because they care about the forest but because 1 their sleep is disturbed and 2 their commercial deal and big house are taken away The book is coloured in shades of gree [...]

  12. I love these Beaver brothers One day a volcano appears on their island and it wasn t there before So they investigate by launching themselves on their newly built hang glider Of course they meet strange new creatures who are creating a new product called Fish Stix But what does that giant pencil sharpener do to the trees And can they stop the mackerels from destroying their island Will the one brother be lost to the dark side

  13. Ace and Bub are up to their old business of getting into and out of scrapes Bob and Bob are staying for a while They use zip lines, hang gliders, though Bub isn t always on board, with anything That is until he realizes that the fish are out to clear the whole island of trees, removing everything the brothers love The Mackerel school of fish have big plans, but Bruce finally comes to his senses and saves the day

  14. Any fan of Maxwell Eaton will still be a fan after reading The Flying Beaver Brothers and the Fishy Business In the second beaver book the brothers discover something suspicious on the island It seems greed and fame will be the end of the island Good thing Ace is investigating In typical Eaton style there is a bit of humor through the book and an environmental message is given without any preachiness.

  15. Another quick fun story in which the Beaver Brothers must protect their island I m glad to finally read this second adventure in the series as the villainous fish, Walter Mackerel made an appearance in a later book and I had no idea who he was My favorite characters are still the previously evil penguins, Bob, who are hilarious and currently living with the Beaver Brothers.

  16. Cute little book that I have to admit made me laugh in public a couple times This is the first book by this author that I have read but I can see me buying some of his books for my future classroom.

  17. Second in the series about these adorable beavers I m really falling for them and all of their gadgets that help them save their island from the mad mackerel that have started a fish stix factory, a very funny looking but recognizable contraption.

  18. The brothers are back in a logging showdown that would do the Lorax proud The evil Fishstix corporation is using a giant pencil sharpener to lay waste to their beloved island home and who else is going to put a stop to the fishy business It s on.

  19. A fun and quick, albeit a bit disjointed, read for graphic novel fans The Beaver Brothers are determined to expose Fishy Business, the makers of Fish Stix, a supposedly environmentally friendly toy Share with budding conservationists and fans of the Lunch Lady and Squish series.

  20. Pretty adorable kids graphic novel The Beaver Brothers attempt to foil Walter Mackeral the Fourth s dastardly plan to chop down all the trees on Beaver Island and turn them into Fish Stix a cheap kid s toy Cute drawings, cute characters, and hilarious awkward moments.

  21. Absurdist humor and appealing Dumb Bunny Captain Underpants style illustrations make the Beaver brothers a sure hit with boys and reluctant readers This quick read also has a lot of great extension possibilities regarding environmental and marketing practices Grades 2 and up

  22. Ace and Bub are a hilarious new addition to the graphic novel world for kids They are funny, quirky, and sometimes they are not very smart, which adds to the hilarity I look forward to sharing this new series with students

  23. B age 7 says he wishes he could give this book 10 stars I age 40 loved the story and the illustrations Bub and Ace are really entertaining We look forward to finding the other books in this series.

  24. This book is actually the first graphic novel I ever read and it convinced me of how great they are It is so funny and has a wonderful environmental theme I think reluctant readers will love this book.
