Comments The Flying Beaver Brothers and the Evil Penguin Plan

  1. They were nowhere, they suddenly, they re everywhere The rise of graphic novels for younger readers is one of the most noteworthy storylines of the aughts And things only seem to be picking up this decade Random House has been a leader in this arena, with certified hits Babymouse and Lunch Lady drawing massive circulations Their latest entry into this field, The Flying Beaver Brothers, is another winner Full of brisk storytelling and quirky humor, you best get in at the ground floor.Ace and Bub [...]

  2. I m just waiting for John to have his stuffed Ace and Bub beavers for his summer trip Ms Beecher and Mr Sharp, The Flying Beaver Brothers are just right for your readers. The surf competition could be disrupted by a group of penguins who are most sure that they are NOT puffins who wish to freeze the lake so that they can frolic without having to watch for predators.Plenty of droll which way did they go, George kind of humor will keep younger readers entertained Lots of running gags and asides apl [...]

  3. Extremely goofy, but lots of fun Some of the panels may be a little confusing to young readers many are from the point of view of the beavers while they re underwater looking up, but it s pretty easy to figure out Good transition graphic novel to get younger kids interested in reading.

  4. Adorable characters rendered in blue, white, and grey cartoonish artwork some funny parts, including wordplay would be great for newly independent readers emerging readers The story wasn t that compelling for me, and the wrap up seemed kind of anticlimactic.

  5. The layout of this graphic novel is very easy to read, the illustrations are super cute, and the story itself is lots of fun Nice series, and one that readers of different levels and age could read easily

  6. Title The Flying Beaver Brothers and the Evil Penguin PlanAuthor Maxwell Eaton IIIGenre Graphic NovelTheme s Friendship, Team work, Success Failure Opening line sentence Hi I m Ace and this is Bub We re brothers, which means were always there to help each other out Walrus THUMP He ll be fine.Brief Book Summary Ace and Bub are preparing for a surfing competition when Ace s surfboard gets stolen by penguins Ace and Bub soon realize these Penguins are trying to freeze the entire island Ace and Bub [...]

  7. Ace and Bub, the beaver brothers, are practicing for the surf competition when their board is stolen by a couple of penguins or puffins But when they go to get it back, they discover that the penguins are up to no good Can they thwart the penguins and win the competition against bullying beaver Bruce Maxwell Eaton III s art is detailed than that of Jennifer L and Matthew Holm, although he uses a similar three color scheme Eaton is terrific at drawing action, which is good since there s a lot of [...]

  8. Ace and Bub, two beavers who seem to attract adventure, are the stars of this graphic novel, which joins Babymouse, Squish, the Lunch Lady, all graphic novels likely inspired by the success of Diary of a Wimpy Kid These graphic novel series are for younger readers, though, and contain the expected types of humor and confusion often popular with third and fourth graders While Ace is training for the upcoming surfboard competition, two penguins definitely penguins and not puffins, a nod to a runni [...]

  9. I bought this book for the second grader 8 years old I nanny and he LOVES it He s a bit of a reluctant reader, although I wouldn t necessarily categorize him as completely reluctant He s just not an exuberant reader I saw this in the bookstore, flipped through it, and thought to myself, Oh my gosh, these beavers are so darn cute Thankfully the kid loves this book I ve never seen him rave about a book like this He came downstairs this morning and told me he stayed up really late reading this book [...]

  10. Perfect graphic novel for early readers I found this one in the school library the other day and thought Aidan might like it Well I was wrong he LOVED it and was instantly obsessed with this one and the sequel The Flying Beaver Brothers and the Evil Fish This is a great early reader or reluctant reader book as the dialogue is spare and the plot is simple There are also many panels with just illustrations This is a silly book but with some humor that will appeal to adults Two of the penguins are [...]

  11. Lots of fun most of it can be read just with the pictures, so I think this would be a good one for newly independent readers. The beavers are getting ready for their annual surfing contest, when 2 penguins steal their surfboard When they retrieve it, they find out that the penguins have some deep plan They later find out the penguins are going to freeze the whole island for himself They also battle a bully beaver who really wants to win the contest Great fun, with puns and visual hijinks I d reco [...]

  12. Perhaps the simple illustrations allow young readers to see the story, the short length will appeal to them, and they ll be amused by the humor.A beaver s ability to chew down trees was put in as one of ways they tried to solve a situation, but it was a minor incident in the story, yes, and swimming was an integral part I wonder why the author did not take advantage of their unique abilities throughout the story Are the Flying Beaver Brothers always on the beach Do they always have conflict wit [...]

  13. I really loved this comic book because it was funny and cute The illustrations are simple but adorable and I couldn t get enough of it The dialogue was funny with some jokes and I enjoyed the story a lot The evil Penguins stole the beaver s surfboard and while the beaver brothers tried getting it back they discovered that the penguins had a huge underwater machine and a hundred evil penguins They went back down and snuck into the machine to find the blueprints of their plan of turning the tropic [...]

  14. Beavers Bub who d rather be napping and Ace stumble upon a Penguin plot to turn Beaver Island where the big Surfing Competition is held into a frozen Penguin Vacation resort Thought they are warned by Bob and Bob 2 messenger penguins not to reveal what they know, Ace is determined to stop this dastardly plot Bub just wants to nap Will they be able to stop the penguin plans in time for beat Bruce in the big surfing contest Hilarity ensues I loved this one I can t wait for the students to get thei [...]

  15. Ace and Bub are two beaver brothers Ace wants to surf and Bub wants to nap But when some penguins steal Ace s surfboard, the two brothers are sucked into a nefarious penguin plot to freeze the entire ocean Silly antics are the name of the game in this cute new series of graphic novels The title is a perfect entry point for new readers Most of the action is in the images, with just enough language to help the story along mostly onomatopoeia Book 2 was simultaneously released, but I have not read [...]

  16. Despite a somewhat exciting story and likeable art, I was un blown away by this one I did finish it, because the story was engaging enough, but I couldn t tell the main characters apart despite their different swim trunks which I think really cut down on the book s potential I didn t really catch the sleepy one s name either since his brother calls him Bub and the bully calls him Flub kind of confusing Even though thecharacters aren t distinguishable form each other, the art is fun with a single [...]

  17. Great introductory graphic novel for our youngest readers Adventurous, silly, funny, somewhat weird, according to Lilly very short read Folly Ace and Bub on their adventures through these books about a beaver population on Beaver Island Whether they are surfing, swimming, or defeating the evil penguin plan to freeze the island for a penguin retreat, or flying to a volcano in The Fishy Business, these two are a hoot

  18. Ace and Bub, the Flying Beaver Brothers, are getting ready for the big surfing competition when a pair of penguins attempt to steal their surfboard Following the penguins to take back the board, the brothers become aware of a plot to freeze the island and in humorously complicated scenes manage to save the day and win the competition.A great new comic series for fans of Babymouse, Squish, and Lunch Lady Grades 3 5.

  19. I picked this book up at Half Price Books this past weekend because it looked cute the art kind of reminded me of Scaredy Squirrel and had a fantastic title It was cute and funnymetimes I felt the humor was a little lame Overall it was a quick, easy, fun read and I plan to check out the other Flying Beaver Bros books.

  20. This series is for younger children, probably up to about age ten It is full of action, in fact, everything zooms along in a sugar rush and pratfall humour is kept to a high The penguins are cute as they pop in here and there and the running joke whether they are puffins or penguins is cute The penguins are not really evil, but their plan to freeze the island is thwarted The book is coloured in shades of blue and grey.

  21. Perfect for young graphic novel readers in the K 4th range, with evil penguin masterminds and surfing beaver brothers out to stop the evil penguin masterminds who might ruin the surfing contest With naps, blueprints, and secret underwater bases of operations, this has plenty to appeal to the funnybone.

  22. I enjoyed this emergent reader graphic novel for the most part, though I found the penguins used much advanced language than the rest of the book It was like most of the words an emergent reader could read with no problem, than suddenly they were talking about schematics Also beavers in salt water It feel the need to learn about beavers.

  23. This was just OKAY for me, but then I m not an eight year old boy The action scenes in this battle royale between beavers and penguins was a bit confusing, especially since all critters involved looked pretty much alike Meaning the beavers are identical except for their swim trunks, and the penguins well, they re just identical.

  24. Cute and clever, and a nice balance between text and graphic This would be a fun series to read aloud with kids some of the humor would almost certainly go over their heads, but keep it entertaining for the adult involved much like the Bugs Bunny cartoons The evil penguins Bob and Bob totally steal the show.

  25. Ka KAH My 2nd 3rd grade graphic novel readers will love this slight but funny graphic novel about two beaver brothers who foil dastardly penguin plans to turn their island into a frozen resort The weirdnesses of the penguins why don t they have face, just heads will appeal to a slightly skewed sense of humor This will fly off the shelves.

  26. Fast, action packed and truly told with the images as well as the words in an easy to follow lay out and quick reward plot points and jokes for early or reluctant readers Full of silliness and dry wit.

  27. Grades 2 4 Two brothers are determined to win a surfing contest, when a penguin steals their board They uncover the penguin plot to freeze the oceans, since the poles are melting Fun book for graphic novel lovers.
