Comments Ten for Me

  1. Children love to be entertained and part of that is being read to from cute picture books Couple fun entertainment with learning and you have a deliciously grand win win situation In Ten For Me, we have two children catching and releasing butterflies They are involved in a competition to see who can catch the most butterflies. On day one, Ed catches 10 and Rose catches only 1 But that still adds up to 10 As the days progress, they each capture a different number of butterflies but the total is st [...]

  2. Do you like to watch and maybe even catch butterflies Both Rose, with her Butterfly Field Guide for Young Explorers book, and Ed, with his trusty butterfly net, do, and they decide to go on a butterfly hunt On the first day, Ed catches ten, but Rose doesn t have much fun because she catches none By the sixth day, Rose is feeling a little better because they each find five apiece On their last day out, poor Ed nets none, but Rose gets ten They shout, How many in all Let s add them again Of course [...]

  3. Ten For Me by Barbara MaricondaSylvan Dell Press2011 Ages 5 7.Ten For Me is an excellent picture book with a mathematical theme As a school librarian I am always looking for good books to pair with concepts that are being taught in the classroom This book explains and gives a teacher an opportunity to jump into a discussion and explanation of counting and addition concepts Parents wanting a good book with a math theme would do well to pick this book up In addition to an appealing story about cat [...]

  4. Reading and science and math triple threat This is a great little book to discover math, science and of course reading I love in the back there is a guide to butterfly parts, and some graphs The story is good and good for math The illustrations are good too I thought I knew a lot about butterflies but I learned SO much Great Someone reviewed this book and it said the rhymes were awkwardI didn t think they were awkward at all Great one

  5. Do you like to make simple the complicated addition I do This is a good book to read for students when teaching and learning addition CONCEPT The story can be used as a strategy of decomposing the number 10 Students can follow the story by looking at the images from the book and also imagine the story Students could then play a make a ten game as an extension activity and maybe make a 20.

  6. So I ve had to fill in and do Umigo programs at the library and I decided to add math themed picture books to my repertoire I really like Ten for Me to use with the addition unit of Umigo The story is of a girl struggling to catch as many butterflies as her friend the math concept is the many different ways you can add up to 10.

  7. This story is a great way to teach children how to decompose the number 10 Students could follow along with manipulatives and act out what is happening in the story Afterwards, the teacher could explain to the children that they found all the ways to make ten Students could then play a make a ten game as an extension activity.

  8. Artwork is fine and info is interesting The math component will make it appealing to those who insist on learning in everything they read to their kids poor kids And the rhymes are simply dreadful and awkward This would have been much better in prose.

  9. A math story with tidbits of info about butterflies on every page An educational section at the end covers numbers and patterns, addition, butterfly body parts, butterfly life cycles, and a compare and contrast section featuring illustrations of different types of butterflies.

  10. Won this book from the Giveway Recieved it in less than a week The book is so bright colorful LOVE that it incorporates science math so when I teach my students about butterflies they can also learn how to do addition GREAT BOOK thank you so much

  11. Cute story and interesting way to show different ways of adding up to 10 Also showcases a few butterfly species.

  12. For class rooms that study the life cycle of a butterfly this is a must have Incorporates simple math, information about the butterfly habits and anatomy.
