Comments To the Devil, My Regards

  1. OK but not so great crime noir, It seems a little too short, a little too pat, and way too invested in film noir rather than book noir Is book noir a real term Should be.

  2. Synopsis blurb.Z.Z DelPresto is a ne er do well private eye who stumbles into trouble along the beaches of Alabama and Florida But this time he may have waded out too far The evidence appears to show him killing the seventeen year old girl he d fallen for But Z.Z knows good and well he didn t do it, and now he s in the fight of his life to prove it Throw in the girl s rich and ruthless parents, some cops who have been trying to put DelPresto away for years, a topless tourist and a stuttering psy [...]

  3. Victor Gischler, writes off beat little gems This one was co authored by Anthony Neil Smith It was 99 cents for my Kindle and worth much Z.Z Delpresto, P.I is not having a good week He s been hired to spy on the mother of a girl he ends up making love to only to have her be killed and he is found with the murder weapon in his hand Delpresto finds nothing going his way Amazing how fate can work against us sometimes We like the think we re the center of the Solar System, everything revolving arou [...]

  4. This collaboration by Smith and Gischler has the feel of a 100 minute neo noir movie, or maybe a super violent episode of one of those private detective shows You have a messed up private detective, the dysfunctional family he s snooping on, a hit man and other assorted muscle, cops, some sympathetic, some not, a few slapstick scenes, a car chase, a boat chase, beatings and interrogations, heads blown off, and sex I mean, what do you want A mystery to solve Has that, too The pace is fast and th [...]

  5. Another Anthony Neil Smith story, another home run This time, Victor Gischler co signs this baby Private eye Z.Z Del Presto is a violent boyscout, embarked on a booze soaked adventure TO THE DEVIL, MY REGARDS is a smartly plotted, fast paced novella with sharp dialogues It s also featuring one of the most effective femme fatale in the business and some of the most effective writing on how men get weak in the knees in front of a good looking broad.Hats off guys

  6. A fun piece of PI fiction cowritten in some obscure manner by two writers It is a quick read and nonstop action Great crime fiction Z Z Del Presto is hired to spy on a man s wife but instead gets involved with the lovely daughter Rachel Unfortunately, several eyewitnesses see him stab Rachel just as the police pull up But maybe he is safer in the pokey since all kinds of hit men are after him There are places in the story where the sense of humor particularly with regard to the descriptions of p [...]

  7. Gischler knows NoirA quick down on your luck detective story Twists and turns nicely Try his book The Deputy for fun.

  8. I ve always been a fan of fast pace movies Crank Smoking Aces hell, even Sin City The non stop action is like a gut check of adrenaline and no matter how hard I try I just can t pull myself away The same quality of action, however, is difficult to find in a book The action is usually sidelined by descriptives or there is almost always another plot point that needs to be discussed which results in the reader being drug away kicking and screaming to another place The longer the book, the less hype [...]

  9. At the end of this book, I felt as if I had been messed around, taken for a ride, sniggered atbut I m still not sure so I m thinking about it.I was drawn in thinking that this guy, DelPresto, was your usual slightly seedy, seen better days, not particularly clever P.I who sneaks around trying to find out the dirty secrets of adulterous spouses Well that was what he was involved with, but unfortunately during his investigation he found the daughter of his client murdered and he seems to be the on [...]

  10. Reviews Of Unusual SizeRe Z.Z Delpresto is having a very bad week It started out okay, hired to track a wealthy wife, falling for her sexy daughter, still collecting the paycheck to go with the job Then the daughter, who just happens to be seventeen ends up dead, and DelPresto s hand is still holding the knife Outstanding This novella costs less than a buck and is written by Gischler and Smith That should be enough reason to buy it right there Both have a deft hand at noir, and this slim book is [...]

  11. Two of the best crime fiction writers of this generation, Gischler and Smith deliver a solid, fast paced novella that mostly lives up to everything you d expect from such a pairing Z.Z DelPresto is a P.I who is, frankly, not very good at his job hired to keep tabs on a wealthy wife, he almost immediately falls into bed with the wife s sexy but under age daughter, and when the girl winds up murdered DelPresto is the prime suspect In a mad scramble to clear his name and find the real killer, DelPr [...]

  12. To The Devil, My Regards is a slice of noir severed ice cold, splattered with warm blood and topped with a sprinkling of humor The protagonist, Z Z Delpresto is a local gumshoe who makes his living spying on cheating spouses and getting punched in the face often than not In his latest case, DelPresto finds himself enthralled in a family drama that gets bloody very quick The waters ever murky due to the fact he s having relations with the 17y o daughter Rachel of the his client the cheating spou [...]

  13. I liked this book, but it could have been better I ve been reading alot of books lately that are very efficient in the writing, not much fluff, just story and I m finding that I enjoy that However, this one was a little too skimpy in places It read very much like a first draft where the author simply never went back to add anything Overall, it was a good, short page turner Recommended.

  14. I really enjoyed this novella, but I wish it was a little longer I also hope they write another story with Z.Z DelPresto in it I loved his character It was a fun read I found myself laughing out loud at times and I love when that happens The only other novel I ve read by either of these gentlemen so far was The Deputy by Victor Gischler and I loved that book Must explore from these two writers o

  15. Really great short story that fit many of the typical noir criteria I read it in two very short sittings and really enjoyed the quick pace and lack of filler.

  16. Good hard boiled crime fiction Finished it in one day an hour and a half, sum of my commute to and from work , and that was about perfect Just a great, bite sized piece of noir.
