  1. gulzaar sahab is the bestwords can not define the epitome of gulzaar sahab.Sham se aankh mein nami si haiaj phir aap ke kami si haidafn kar do hamen ki sans milenabz kuch der se thami si haiwaqt rehta nahi kaheen chupakaris ke aadat bhi aadmi si haikoi rishta nahi raha phir bhiek taslim lazami si hai

  2. Most of my childhood days had been spent listening beautiful songs written by Gulzar Sahab and composed by R.D Burman This duo has a special place in my heart and memory that will remain evergreen Infact, Gulzar sahab s deep and meaningful lyrics inspired me during initial days of my writing and it still does when I feel sombre This book is definitely a treat to all poetry lovers I wrote down my favorite ones in a diary There is a feel, there is a pinch and then a balm you read it.

  3. After my recent fiasco with Neruda s verses, I had to bank on Gulzarsaab to reinforce my belief and reassure me when it came to poetry, and boy does he not disappoint I was somewhat limited by my lack of proficiency in reading Hindi but the copy I read had the translations in recto and it made my job much easier when I encountered some word or phrase that I couldn t get I am sure that enough has been written about the genius of the poet and I feel I am not qualified enough to add much to it He w [...]

  4. A book that can everyone who understands Hindi can read Such simplicity, such amazing choice of words and small observations which you could miss I rather preferred reading the poems in Hindi than English But kudos to Pavan Varma who has translated the poems in a way that is as simple as Gulzar s originals As Gulzar Sahab said, he s another Pluto in the solar system.

  5. I have always been a fan of Gulzar saab s poem The best thing about this selection is, each and every poem is a gem.

  6. The Heart seeks.FriendPoemDistancePurity Really good poems The heart seeks again those moments of leisure when all day and night we just sat thinking of the beloved Ghalib Just can t forget this refrainI would like to request if anyone could suggest me any such books.Bu this one is lovely, short simple

  7. Gulzar is a magician his words rip apart the fabric of your very existence and hold your heart captive Triveni is eloquently woven stories stringed in three lines Indigenous to the subcontinent, his words are boundaryless A must read.

  8. Beautiful collection of poetry Most are short and to the point and I finished the book in an hour s time.

  9. Such eloquent words and a world of meaning Gulzar delights and amazes An amazing job done by the translator, Pavan Varma.

  10. I loved the fact that I could weave something so simple into my mundane routine and make it glorious Gulzar sahab s words are not a complex web of multiple thought threads, and therein lies the magic He talks about this one thing as though it s just laying there, in front of him and he s making observations Didn t really connect to all the poems However, the ones I connected to are really close to my heart They ve transported me into his lyrical world, like incredible pieces of musical compositi [...]

  11. What can one say about Gulzar sahab Having followed his work in movies and ghazals for years, it was a pleasure to find some other poems that I had not read before I can t comment on the quality of the translation since I didn t really read them There are some poems that I would have omitted because thematically they are similar to others in the book This is a book you open in solitude and just let the words soak in.

  12. Takes me back to childhood where I used to read Tennyson and forget that The Brook is actually not a living person These poems have sheer purity and expression of love, sorrow, and any form of affection.

  13. wonderful book filled with his magical words I love the aesthetics of this book, one page in hindi and the next page with an apt English translation I am marvelled at the ease with which the translations make sense.

  14. Nice collectionBest collection of poems by Gulzar shab Joyful and happy One of the best poem writer in present era.

  15. For me poetry starts from Gulzar sahab I have learned everything which I write today by reading his poems A brilliant writer Every nazm has a uniqueness, and maturity, and stays with time Must read.

  16. A beautiful collection of poems by Gulzar sahab The translations make it easier for a beginner to understand hindi urdu Definitely a must read for poetry lovers

  17. I write this review with a mingled feeling of pride and shame Pride because India was the blessed country which bore a poet like Gulzar, who is a living tribute to the rich traditions of Urdu poetry of Bahadur Shah Zafar, Ghalib, Zauq, Faiz and the like.Shame because I was no stranger to Gulzar.I have watched his movies, enjoyed his lyrics in many a Hindi movie Soundtracks and yet, it took me all this time to read his works.A typical Gulzar anthology has the original verse in Hindi on the left a [...]

  18. Deeply evocative poetry, with some truly spectacular imagery and similes Yet simple enough to be accessible to most Hindi speakers The English translation helps whenever one comes across an unfamiliar urdu word The poetry encompasses themes that most of us can relate to Triveni, or three line poems, towards the end of the book, are especially recommended A gem of a book.

  19. I don t understand poetry a lot, but still I think I got the depth of some of the poems They really touch your heart The English translations of the poems by Pavan K Verma are really helpful in understanding the meanings of Urdu words Sometimes I liked them even than the original poems I would need to read the book again to gain insight on the poems.

  20. Can anyone be a better poet than Gulzar This collection, which contains both the original Hindi poems and their translations, is an absolute treat The translations do full justice to the originals, and people like me, who aren t sure of meanings of certain Urdu influenced words in the original, will find this collection most satisfying.

  21. 5 stars for original verses, 3 for translation I skipped a lot of translated versions as I can understand Hindi Urdu If language is not a boundation, stick to Gulzar s hindi urdu books in stead of translated ones.
