Comments Pride and Prejudice

  2. While I appreciate the enormity of undertaking turning Pride and Prejudice into a graphic novel, there were a few things that could have made it a much better rendition.Firstly, Mary was nearly absent in the entirety of the story I understand she s not the MC, but her character does add humor and insight into the whole relationship and interaction of the Bennet family.Second, all of the men bear a striking resemblance to Charlton Heston Tall, broad shouldered, brooding, with angular faces and a [...]

  3. This is a good intro to PP for I d say a teen who is going to have to read it for school It s very easy to read, and the pictures don t heavily favour either major on screen retelling 1995 BBC or 2005 feature film Besides my issue with the mislabelling of Mary as the 4th sister, there was also an error in the drawings when Elizabeth visits Pemberley When she sees the portrait of Mr Darcy in the pictures, it s drawn as if it s an actual photograph in a standing frame on a table I found that jarri [...]

  4. Not a word for word retelling, but everything is there The art is a bit on the angular side for my tastes, but overall a really enjoyable read

  6. I just really love reading the classics as graphic novels Cut out the slow scenes and all the walking around, add some great art and make the whole thing run on dialogue and longing looks I love it.While a bit bland, this version of PP is infinitely preferable to Nancy Butler s graphic novel of the same Edington sticks very close to the source material, and Robert Deas art is charming and not at all distracting I may look into reading of this series of graphic novels.

  7. I was not aware of graphic novels until some from this group were reviewing them Since I had read Pride and Prejudice I thought I would start with it I was pleasantly surprised with how well the book was portrayed by these author s and illustrators I can give it only a three since the illustrations were too much alike throughout the book I have another by Igortwhich I m really anxious to read and see I may yet grow to like graphic novels.

  8. A fun graphic novel retelling of one of my favorite stories bestie Patricia said I ll read all things Austen , a sentiment I share Not my favorite art style little too angular for me but the illustrator captured the humor and pain so well some damn fine Lizzy side eye going on A nice break from heavier series would recommend.

  9. I love love love Pride and Prejudice and though I liked most of the graphic style of this GN, I didn t enjoyed the text itself There were some parts of the dialogue that the language was modern whereas others wasn t I didn t get why It could be the Portuguese translation but definitely it felt bit odd.

  10. Parece muito com a adapta o do filme de 2005, mas com elementos mais fi is ao livro Eu gostei bastante de como foi feito, s gostaria que ele tivesse sido mais extenso e menos apressado em alguns momentos.

  11. Edginton uses the source material well and Deas manages to capture the humor, though as is inevitable with a graphic novel interpretation, some characters plotlines don t get enough time on the page Overall, a great introduction to the novel that I thoroughly enjoyed.

  12. Reading Pride and Prejudice in a quicker form was different I liked the artwork but it was not my favourite.

  13. I d probably give this 3.5 stars, just because it s Pride and Prejudice Anything with Mr Darcy is pretty much awesome So I kinda can t give this a lower rating just can t.

  14. Oooh, I m sad that I didn t like this Right up until Mr Darcy s first proposal, I was totally on board, really enjoying it, and fully prepared to write a great review Aaaaand then the rest of the book happened. The first thing that I will comment on is my mixed feelings about the artwork On one hand, I thought it was aesthetically pleasing enough I liked looking at the pictures But very quickly, I became frustrated because I didn t see a lot of variance or anything really dynamic happening The f [...]

  15. Adapting a novel as dense as Pride and Prejudice into graphic form was never going to be easy, but Edginton and Deas give it a good go The art is, for the most part, cheerful and fluid although at times Lizzy s blue dress blended into the background and in one panel a green stripe on her skirt against some grass make it look like she s wearing trousers The hyper realistic landscapes and 3D buildings only occasionally work and often than not look out of place amongst the cartoony art.The charac [...]

  16. More reviews and no fluff on the blog surrealtalvi.wordpress This is the second graphic novel adapatation of this story I ve read and know of 2 other , in addition to the paranormal parodies and definitely one of the better The artwork is clean and easy to follow and the story a decent adapt from the novel. As with any graphic novel from a literary source, you will lose quite a bit in the intricacies of the story A very good artist gains it back with expressions and settings for the artwork Here, [...]

  17. A graphic novel rendition done in a period style that feels quite airy and bright, and reminds me of elements seen in the newer, cinematic versions done like the BBC s one with Colin Firth But this also has its expressive, atmospheric moments that remind me of the new one with Keira Knightley Moments that show body language such as touch to touch hands in the Rengency era was a romantic gesture occur here Also there are moments when under extreme emotions the scenery changes color tones, and th [...]

  18. Pride and Prejudice is the love story of Elizabeth Bennet and Fitzwilliam Darcy and if you haven t read the novel, or a comic adaptation, or even seen a movie, you should probably check it out Pride and Prejudice is one of my favorite novels and I currently have sixteen copies of book yes, I m crazy as well as various adaptations I own the Marvel comic adaptation and I didn t realize this edition existed until I stumbled upon it at the library. This is a solid adaptation and would make a great st [...]

  19. This is what I would describe as an inessential adaptation of Pride and Prejudice While I would not necessarily expect someone to read this if he or she was unfamiliar with the source material, I feel like a basic standard for an adaptation of this type would be to convey the story well Unfortunately, though the art is attractive, the character designs have a similarity that makes it difficult to differentiate the various characters, which is a problem in a book where there are numerous characte [...]

  20. 4 stars if you know the original novel and read this as of a companion or illustrations to it 3 stars if you have do not The illustrations are quite suitable, not too sweet, not too pretty sometimes influenced by the TV movie adaptations for example the Bingley siblings look very much as they do in the 2005 film but not so much that it is a bother, very much is the original ideas of the illustrator But if you just read this and skip the original novel you loose out on the subtle points on the [...]
