Comments Made in Japan: Akio Morita and Sony

  1. Amazing book And I joined Steve Jobs and many from the Akio Morita fan club.Did you know that he was such a sensation that Steve Jobs wanted to build Apple to be like Sony Here are the similarities Both Apple and Sony had a reputation of creating perfectly crafted consumer products which conquer the marketplace Apple still does, in fact. Both companies were leaders in personal technology This is where Apple drew inspiration from Sony s Walkman, an inspiration which culminated in the first iPOD.T [...]

  2. Below are key excerpts from the book that I found particularly insightful 1 I have always believed that a trademark is the life of an enterprise and that it must be protected boldly A trademark and a company name are not just clever gimmicks they carry responsibility and guarantee the quality of the product If someone tries to get a free ride on the reputation and i the ability of another who has worked to build up public trust 2 In the beginning, when our track record for success was not establ [...]

  3. Let me start my review by informing you all that there are many ways of how to look a book I treat Made in Japan as an honest and down to earth memoir and little much as a treatise on economics, trade, and doing business as a whole Frankly speaking, my knowledge about economics on the macro side tend to be poor, and with conditions today being very different from when the book was written, some concepts may not apply in the contemporary context With that known, the book is actually an enjoyable, [...]

  4. The biography of Sony s founder and chairman, Akio Morita, is aptly named Made in Japan Akio Morita and Sony covers the main aspects of what this book is about Japan, Japanese industry, Sony, and Morita himself It is, in fact, less an autobiography of Morita unless, of course, you take into account the fact that his personality and beliefs are reflected in the issues he discusses in the book and about Japan, commerce, technology, and related fields.Made in Japan begins dramatically at the point [...]

  5. Before I read this book, I had set some great expectations for it, as it was highly recommended by a friend And it was one of a handful of books that met their expectations It was truly amazing and enjoyable The great thing about this book is that I cannot comfortably categorize it under one genre It can be seen as many things.Firstly, it can be seen as an autobiography of a very creative and successful man Reading the book, I couldn t help noticing the similarity between Akio Morita s creativit [...]

  6. The book, written by one of the founders of Sony Corporation, is a must read for people who are curious to know about the rise in Japan,as witnessed by Akio Morita, from a country selling cheap trinkets and umbrellas to a country on the leading edge of technology The book talks about a lot of things from the early days of Sony when Toshiba was a much bigger player in Electronics industry to the formation of Sony Corporation of America to the unreconciable differences between Japan and America.Adm [...]

  7. I read this book after reading Lee Iacocca and felt that in the last few chapters it was all like a reply given by Mr Morita on behalf of Japanese companies to american businessman like Mr iacocca who condemn Japan for not opening up its market for foreign industries and at the same time dump their good of excellent quality to America.Anyway what Japanese industries have achieved after the disastrous atomic attacks is highly commendable and Sony being the pioneer in the race others include autom [...]

  8. This is one of the best book, I have ever read People who are interested in History, Management or to understand the cultural difference between East and West, will all enjoy the book Engineers would find it quite inspiring Highly recommended.

  11. Many lessons to be learnt from Akio Morita on management, and the importance of a solid company philosophy Many of his views on world trade, the essence of how an economy should progress and be built on must have been revolutionary at that time Being written in the 80s, the book starts off much slower than books written today If you read the book with the given context at the back of your mind, you will appreciate the tempo of the book Would highly recommend this book if you can get your hands o [...]

  12. i read this book On and Off its a great entrepreneurial journey of an Idea transformed into the world s leading business i called entrepreneurial journey of an IDEA rather than an entrepreneurial journey of Man because its the vision and goal that a group of people started with made the people transform and learn while they do business People who do the business change but the idea behind doing it and the business itself doesnt it evolves but never dies Thats SONY it know what people likes Made [...]

  13. Author has touched upon topics like world trade, management and innovation in a manner which makes the reader dive into think deeper on each topics For one who doesn t have much knowledge about Japan this book speaks diversely about it It was a realisation for me to know what it meant to be affluent and industrialist as the author was couple decades ago Everything makes it a than a decent read I also like to mention that book is not so well written.

  14. I read this so long ago that I can t fully remember the details of my impressions, but at a young age, it was sufficiently interesting to keep me engaged The story of how they built Sony in the ruins of Post war Tokyo was truly inspirational.

  16. An interesting read on how SONY was build after WWII by inventing new technologies and products I expected a biography, but was pleasantly surprised on how Akio Morita discussed business and cultural differences between Japan and USA.

  17. Simple , comprehensive covering important cultural, work related , business related and historical aspects of Japan from around the time of the world wars Walks you through the efforts of creating Sony and introduces you to thinking Win Win Anecdotes make it so interesting and facts stickier The author is proud and yet balanced and pragmatic Enjoyed it all the way Interesting also is Summary of world trends esp in the US wrt business and policies over trade wrt Japan Overview it gives is brillia [...]

  18. The book is an autobiography of the great man and the co founder of Sony Morito through anecdotes paints the horrifying pictures of the world war II and then describes how the entire Japan united to reconstruct the country The major steps which Japan took were 1 Empowerment of Military and 2 Establishment of the foundations of free democratic egalitarian society Military which was once created by zaibatsu or the affluent families, started controlling the zaibatsu laws were made to increase taxes [...]

  19. This book started off real well with some vivid description of the war on a small locality.e impact it had on families they had to rebuild everything after it got over The best part was the description of war at a micro level and not on the country level the way we are used to read about it.The story of how SONY started was quite engaging but somehow midway the plot was lost The narrative became monotnous The US vs Japanese culture point was taken but the author has nothing new to add for some 9 [...]

  21. In today s global economy, this book is a must read for anyone looking for an insight into Eastern management philosophy Akio Morita needs no introduction A legend in his lifetime, he founded Sony, one of the most powerful and respected multinational corporations in the world. This book is an autobiography of Akio Morita and it goes hand in hand with the story of growth and expansion of Sony as well as post World War II Japan This is a story of young Japanese who dreamt of a great company and wen [...]

  22. Bagi sebuah buku berjumlah 300 muka surat, Made in Japan sebuah autobiografi Akio Morita pengasas Sony merupakan sebuah pembacaan yang mudah, dan amat ringan Tetapi itu tidak bermakna intipati yang cuba digarapnya tidak sama berat dengan buku buku bisnes, hatta buku buku falsafah yang lain sekalipun Made in Japan ia menceritakan pengamalan Akio Morita di dalam membawa Sony ke mercu kejayaannya Umpamanya, kesungguhan dan tekad beliau meneroka sebuah pasaran tape recorder , yang mana mana manusia [...]

  23. Very good book, not just about Sony, it also gives the conditions prevailing and Japan during the World War 2 and also gives us a gist of the Japanese culture in therms of how they think.

  24. Mr Morita was brought up to be a manager from an early age as eldest son he was supposed to inherit the 15 generation family sake brewing business , but he got fascinated by physics, eventually getting a formal education as an engineer Finally, in the early days of Sony it fell on him to deal with the marketing side of the enterprise, where he learned from first hand experience So from this perspective of a manager engineer marketer rolled into one, comes a memoir of Sony s co founder, published [...]
